Berimbau
The berimbau controls the flow of the Capoeira game (roda) and usually played by the most senior capoeirasta. There are three variants of the berimbau; viola, medio, gunga, and each have their own pitch and part to play within the bateria.
Reco-Reco
Reco-Reco
The Reco-Reco is another supplemental percussion instrument within the Capoeira bateria. It can be either made with metal or wood. The surface of the instrument has a serrated surface and the stick is scraped across the surface to created a unique sound.
Atabaque
Atabaque
The atabaque is the main percussion instrument in the bateria. It keeps the rhythm and has roots in the Candomblé religion. It is constructed with wooden planks held together with metal hoops and the top is an animal skin usually cow.
Agogô
Agogô
The Agogo can be made with either metal or wood. It is a supplemental percussion instrument.
Pandeiro
Pandeiro
The pandeiro is one of the more common instruments in the Capoeira bateria. It is constructed of a wooden hoop and a tightened surface (usually animal skin) held in place by metal screw hooks.
